Heating, cooling, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC)

Heating, cooling, ventilation and air conditioning includes applications ranging from appliances burning gas or oil and solid fuels through refrigeration, heat pumps and heat exchanger for ventilation.

CEN is developing European Standards that cover the conversion of gaseous fuels and their uses in various types of installations, components and materials to be incorporated in or linked to applications and installations. 'Installation' is considered to the extent that it has an influence on appliances and controls.

Also in this sector, in the field of Ecodesign and Energy Labelling, CEN and CENELEC are developing harmonized standards that provide dedicated methods for measuring the energy performance of various energy-related products, such as heating and cooling appliances or ventilations units, against the compulsory values and thresholds laid down in Ecodesign Regulations that have been adopted by the European Commission for these energy-related products. These harmonized standards are elaborated on the basis of a request from the European Commission to develop a European standard that provides solutions for compliance with legal provisions.
