CEN/WS - Procedure for evaluating if the use of a Volatile Fatty Acid Platform technology for a given type of biowaste at a given location is economically and ecologically reasonable (EvaVOLATILE)

This Workshop intends to develop a simple evaluation methodology that allows biogas plant operators to assess whether the changeover of a given biogas plant to a coupled energetic and material use is ecologically and economically reasonable under certain conditions. The evaluation should for example, take into account the plant location and the starting materials used in order to enable statements regarding possible value chains at the considered site. Furthermore, the process developed here is intended to provide information on potential value chains that are available in this respect. To this end, the knowledge and experience of various stakeholders, the results of previous research as well as existing and new technological developments was taken into account.

The proposer of the Workshop is the VOLATILE - Biowaste derived volatile fatty acid platform for biopolymers, bioactive compounds and chemical building blocks consortium. This is a project funded by the European Commission under the EU Framework Programme for Research and Innovation (Horizon 2020).

This workshop that started in 2018 is now entering into the public commenting phase and the workshop participants have now reached agreement on the draft text of the CWA (CEN Workshop Agreement), which is now available (ZIP format) for public review and commenting until 13th May 2020.

Comments can be directly submitted to the Workshop Secretary Christian GRUNEWALD (christian.grunewald@din.de) using the commenting form.

Comments received will be reviewed by the Workshop. The consensus outcome will then be published as a CEN Workshop Agreement.
