FIFA and CEN signing a liaison agreement to cooperate in standardization

On 9 October 2018, FIFA - the International Federation of Football Associations - and CEN signed a liaison agreement. According to the agreement, FIFA will participate in the standardization activities of CEN/TC 217 'Surfaces for sports areas'. The aim of the Technical Committee, whose Secretariat is held by AFNOR, the French National Standardization Body, is to specify methods for the determination of the slip resistance of a sports surface in relation to a studded or smooth soled sports shoe.

By signing the agreement, FIFA has manifested their interest of taking part to the work of two specific working groups, CEN/TC 217/WG 6 'Outdoor synthetic surfaces' and CEN/TC 217/WG 11 'Test methods for sports surfaces'.

Thanks to the signed agreement, FIFA will be able to bring its considerable expertise in professional football to the determination of European Standards in sports surfaces, alongside other stakeholders' representatives coming from the industry and the consumers' world.
