  • Integration of environmental Aspects into European Standardization

The 6th Environment Action Programme 'Environment 2002-2012: Our Future, Our Choice' calls for the integration of environmental aspects into standardization as a way to promote sustainable production and consumption patterns.

The EC Communication COM(2004) 130 "Integration of Environmental Aspects into European Standardization" is a response to the Programme as it underlines the need for European Standardisation Organizations to make this a reality.

The Communication invites the European standardization system and its stakeholders to reflect and act on the following main issues:

  • To widen and deepen the process of the integration of environmental aspects into the standardization process;
  • To set priorities in work programs and mandates;
  • To facilitate the participation of all stakeholders;
  • To further develop and systematically use tools.
