CWA certification

The CWA (CEN Workshop Agreement) is an agreement developed by a CEN Workshop.

The CEN Workshop is an open process that aims at bridging the gap between industrial consortia that produce de facto standards with limited participation of interested parties, and the formal European standardization process, which produces standards through consensus under the authority of the CEN member bodies.

CEN has been approached by various organizations which have identified the need for a European certification system on the basis of the CWA, similar to the Keymark.

As a result, CEN has developed the CWA Certification Rules. These rules are in practice identical to the rules for the Keymark and therefore also constitute a voluntary third-party certification system.
But unlike the Keymark, compliance with the CWA Certification Rules does not result in the affixing of the Keymark or other mark of CEN.

The CWA Certification Rules are set down in the
CEN Internal Regulations - Part 3, Annexes C and D.
