Background
Electromagnetic induction is a non-invasive mapping method applied in several areas, such as among others geological mapping and civil engineering survey, agriculture and forestry, environmental monitoring, groundwater protection, raw material prospecting and archaeology.
Electromagnetic induction measures the apparent electrical conductivity of the subsurface, which corresponds with different soil properties such as clay content, water content, and salinity.
The reproducibility of data of a single geophysical measurement method is an important prerequisite for common interpretation of different methods. Therefore there is a need to introduce standardised procedures into geophysical measurements.
The overall goal of the workshop is to develop a standardized approach for electromagnetic induction measurement to ensure that results can be evaluated and processed under uniform circumstances and can be comparable. The workshop will focus on the near surface application of this method especially related to soil and water.
CEN Workshop Agreement
The CEN Workshop Agreement (CWA) will be a best practice approach for electromagnetic induction measurement to ensure that results can be evaluated and processed under uniform circumstances and can be comparable.
CEN Workshop status
The Workshop has completed its activities in June 2011 and published:
CWA 16373:2011 - Best practice approach for electromagnetic induction (EMI) measurements of the near surface
