The Machinery Directive 2006/42/EC, and lifts Directive 95/16/EC, are within the scope of the 'new approach'. The major task of CEN's technical committees working in the machinery sector is the development of standards supporting the essential safety requirements of these directives.

Machinery terminological database
Machinery terminological database in 35 different languages (October 2011)
The purpose of this document is to provide a multilanguage database with the terms given by ISO 12100 (today ISO 12100:2010).
The database is composed of the 57 terms defined by ISO 12100 in English, French and German, and the translation of these terms into different (today 30) other languages, namely : Arabic, Bulgarian, Croatian, Chinese, Czech, Danish, Dutch, Estonian, Finnish, Greek, Hungarian, Icelandic, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Latvian, Lithuanian, Malay, Norwegian, Persian (or Farsi), Polish, Portuguese, Romanian, Russian, Serbian, Slovak, Slovenian, Spanish, Swedish and Turkish. Free columns are provided for Albanian and Macedonian. Any other language is of course welcome in the database. ISO 639-1:2002 is used for the identification of the languages.
Each national member body is invited to verify the corresponding cells in the following table, to correct them if necessary or insert the translation if available. If not validated by the national member bodies, translations will be identified as non official.
Pursuant to the work that has been carried out in ISO/TC 199 to merge ISO 12100-1:2003, ISO 12100-2:2003 and ISO 14121-1:2007, the database now includes the terms and definitions from all those source documents. Many terms were already defined in ISO TR 12100-1:1992/EN 292-1:1991: they are included in this database, as well as the modifications that had been introduced in ISO 12100-1:2003 and three specific definitions from ISO 14121:2007 (hazardous event, task and malfunction). A further column has been added to give a link to the corresponding definition provided by the ISO Concept Database (“ISO CDB link”).
Note: Document ISO/TC199 N0833 shows the correspondence between the paragraphs of the former standards and ISO 12100:2010.
