The work under M/436 phase 1 will take among others into account the relevant fundings of the GRIFS project to which CEN was a partner and which was successfully completed in February 2010. More information is available from the GRIFS web-site.
In March 2009, CEN approved
Mandate 436 on 'Information and communication technologies applied to radio frequency identification (RFID) systems', issued to the three European Standards Organizations (ESOs). The mandate addresses data protection, privacy and information security aspects of RFID. It invites also the ESOs to develop sector specific RFID implementation guidelines as complementary documents. The work under Mandate M/436 will take place in two phases.
Phase 1 started in January 2010 and is to deliver a standardization work programme by the last quarter of 2010. The report is drafted by an ETSI Specialist Task Force (STF) with the participation of ETSI and CEN experts. The STF formally reports to the ETSI TC TISPAN and is supervised by a co-ordination group of the three ESOs, chaired by Mr Gerard Dessenne (also Convenor of CEN/TC 225/WG 5).
The draft report '
Coordinated ESO response to Phase 1 of RFID M/436' is now available and stakeholders are invited to comment on it before 15 September 2010 (more information is on the cover page of the draft report). The comment template can be downloaded

At CEN level, CEN Workshop on 'Data protection and privacy' (WS/DPP) and CEN/TC 225 on 'AIDC technologies' have been identified to participate in the execution of the mandated work. CEN/TC 225 has adapted its technical body structure to the mandate and made its Ad Hoc Group on RFID a new Working Group.
