eAccessibility
CEN, CENELEC and ETSI have been working together since a few years on Mandate 376 to enable the use of public procurement and practice for ICT to remove barriers to participation in the Information Society for disabled and older people.
Phase 2 - started in January 2011 - is coordinated within a CEN CENELEC and ETSI Joint Working Group where participants are nominated by CEN, CENELEC and ETSI members or represent organizations involved in accessibility.
Phase 2 objective is to produce a European Standard (EN) on functional accessibility requirements for ICT product and services and a few Technical Reports (TRs) on testing, specifications, conformity assessment and guidelines for award criteria used in procurement of ICT goods and services. An online toolkit containing main elements of the EN and TRs will also be provided.
The current draft documents and more information about the work is available on the Mandate 376 dedicated web site. Two Open workshops were organized in 2011 to get feedback from stakeholders on the documents. The JWG next meeting will be in Spring 2012 (date to be fixed yet). Should you wish to participate please contact your national standardization body or the JWG secretariat, Ms Tania Marcos and Sara Cano, AENOR (email).
Design for All
CEN CENELEC and ETSI accepted in 2011 Mandate 473 to include Design for All concept into the standardization process. The CEN BT working group 185 "Special Advisory Group on Accessibility" SAGA kicked off in October 2011 and will draft a proposed work programme during 2012.
Should you wish to participate please contact your national standardization body or the SAGA secretary, Mr Tom Hossegen, Standards Norway (email).
