Open Meeting: European Standards in support of market surveillance
25 June 2008
|
The application of European Standards is a concrete way for manufacturers to demonstrate compliance of products with the essential requirements of those European Directives incorporating the principle of presumption of conformity. The New Package on Internal Market for Goods, adopted by the European Parliament last February, emphasizes conformity assessment and market surveillance.
Adequate market surveillance is necessary to support the principles embodied in the New Approach directives. Therefore the European Standards Organizations should use their strengths in the area of European Standards to assist in the development of efficient European infrastructures to coordinate market surveillance policy and processes.
