The CEN Business Operations Support System (BOSS) is the unique source of reference for all CEN System operations. It gives essential information on the validated key processes and structures in the CEN System operations, at both strategic and operational level.
CEN BOSS provides a basis for consistent and coherent operation of the CEN System, for problem solving, for communication and improvements.
CEN BOSS documents the organisation of CEN as a system, and particularly:
- its mission, vision and strategies;
- the roles and responsibilities of the stakeholders, organisations, groups, bodies and individuals involved in CEN;
- the processes by which the system achieves its objectives.
CEN BOSS does not cover the elements of the CEN operations that are considered internal organisation and processes of the CEN Members, the CEN-CENELEC Management Centre (CCMC) or other organisations involved in the CEN operations. CEN BOSS does not include lists of CEN/TCs, TC Chairpersons, TC Secretaries, work programmes, etc ...
The role of the CEN BOSS is to lay down what a member, a TC, a TC Chairperson, etc ... is, and not which ones are currently in operation.
NOTE: A separate section called Useful hyperlinks gives information on where to find this type of information.
CEN customers and stakeholders will find in the CEN BOSS clear information about the functioning of the European Standardization system they directly or indirectly finance.
Actors in the system, e.g. chairpersons of committees, experts, professional standardizers etc., will find their roles and responsibilities, a clear description of all the processes, instructions, references, tools (e.g. templates) and guidance for their day-to-day work in one comprehensive source of information.
CEN BOSS is designed as an Internet tool and integrated on the CEN web site. It takes full advantage of the features offered by Information and Communication Technologies. Easy consultation using search facilities and through-linking, downloading of documents or templates, easy consultation of references via hyperlinks are examples of services offered by CEN BOSS. The update of its contents and its review takes place in accordance with CEN BOSS Maintenance procedure.
The ambition of the CEN BOSS is, at any time and for any process within the CEN System, to clearly and quickly answer the question :
Who does What, When and How ?
The CEN BOSS is therefore a key element on the route to Total Quality Management that CEN has committed to follow to continuously improve the satisfaction of its customers.
CEN BOSS is a project launched by the Administrative Board of CEN (CEN/CA). Its management has been delegated to the BOSS Management Team who reports appropriately to the Technical Board or Administrative Board of CEN.
