Background
Management according to the ISO 9000 principles ensures that a business is able to work according to sound environmental management as well as the proper implementation of health and safety rules. However, application of the ISO 9000 certification process is not always an easy matter:
-
many SMEs cannot afford the cost of a certification
-
there is no specific certification process for micro SMEs
-
SMEs generally cannot afford to employ personnel with the required competencies
By analogy, it is also difficult to find competencies for the application of ISO 14000, EMAS and health & safety specifics for the single enterprise.
From this consideration comes the necessity to have specialists consultants with the right competence, who can be certified by a third party, so that enterprises will trust them and ask for their services.
CEN Workshop Agreement
The CWA will define, at European level, the competences that a person should have in order to assist an SME to implement an integrated management system, by giving information and advice on quality, environment, health and safety.
The draft CWA is currently under consultation until the 15 September 2010. You are invited to send your comments to the secretariat using the table of comments attached below.
