Background
Since it started its activities in February 1999, the Learning Technologies Workshop has contributed to the effective development and use of relevant and appropriate standards for learning technologies for Europe.
The Learning Technologies Workshop decided, as a matter of principle, not to duplicate work already being done elsewhere, but to ensure that diverse European requirements are properly addressed by global initiatives. Specifications, agreements, guidelines or recommendations will be developed when no initiative addressing the identified requirements is in place yet or when global solutions developed elsewhere need to be localized to European requirements.
The Workshop liaises closely with the CEN Technical Committee 353, which was established during 2007.
More information on the Workshop is available from the Workshop's web-pages, hosted by the Workshop Secretariat held by DIN.
Deliverables
A number of these CWAs (CWA 15533, CWA 15660, CWA 15661) are providing togethergood practice for e-Learning Quality approaches. Additionally, the Workshop's project on Quality has collected case studies on 'E-Learning Quality' from European stakeholders to learn from successful quality projects in practice. The final document (executive summary) provides a guideline on how to implement quality in educational organizations.
- The Workshop has developed a Registry of Application Profiles in eLearning; you are encouraged to also register your eLearning application profile.
- In addition, the Workshop has developed a Repository of taxonomies/vocabularies for a European Learning Society.
- Another deliverable is the Learning Technologies Standards Observatory; the LTSO is maintained subject to funding provided (e.g. FP7 projects).
- Translations of IEEE LOM are available for downloading from these web pages:
- The Workshop has also produced reports that were not given CWA status:
Report on Educational Copyright Licence Conditions (June 2003)
Report on Educational Modeling Languages (October 2002)
- Finally CWA 14040, containing the initial work plan for LT - standardization has been withdrawn (after 3 years): withdrawn CWAs.
