Background
At the request of numerous public authorities and other entities, CEN/ISSS has created a Focus Group to map the various activities in the field of eGovernment standardization and to discuss a roadmap for the future.
Approved terms of reference of the Focus Group
An initial project, funded by Sun Microsystems, has already pursued one project idea linked to the Focus Group work, which was the use of topic maps. Under this initial project, an initial ontology for describing government services and the use of relevant standards was developed and expressed as a topic map.
The Focus Group then obtained funding support from the European Commission and EFTA and produced an "eGovernment Standards Roadmap". The draft was validated in an open meeting held in Brussels on 19 February 2008. The final report is provided here.
Following the finalization of the report, the Focus Group was closed, but already on 20 February 2008 a new CEN/ISSS Workshop on Discovery of and Access to eGovernment Resources (WS/eGov Share) was started following one of the Focus Group recommendations.
