EN 16001 represents the latest best practice in energy management based on existing national standards and initiatives to improve energy efficiency.
Brussels (10 September 2009) – CEN and CENELEC celebrated the launch of the eagerly awaited European Standard EN 16001:2009 – Energy Management Systems – Requirements with guidance for use. This European Standard, which was formally issued on 1 July 2009, will now be implemented in Europe by CEN and CENELEC Members, who will be setting up events, conferences, workshops, seminars and training sessions during the coming months.
Today more than ever, effective management is a crucial issue for the success of any business. For many the answer lies within an Energy Management System. EN 16001 can be applied both independently or integrated with other management systems such as quality and environment management. This European Standard specifies the requirements for an Energy Management System to enable all types and sizes of organizations and companies everywhere in the world to develop and implement a policy, identify significant areas of energy consumption and target reductions. The implementation of this standard will enable the compliance with current and future legislation and regulations on greenhouse gasses emissions and mandatory energy efficiency targets.
Testimonials from various companies and industries during the launch event demonstrated that the application of EN 16001 reduces energy usage and related costs.
