CEN Workshop on ICT-Skills

From its inception, the Workshop has contributed to the long-term e-Skills agenda of the European Commission (EC). Information on the EC's e-Skills policy initiatives is available from the DG ENTR e-Skills web pages.

CEN Workshop on ICT Skills aims to address e-Skills shortages, gaps and mismatches as well as a persistent digital divide that affects productivity growth, competitiveness, innovation, employment and social cohesion in Europe and supports the employment strategy for ICT, particularly the increase in highly qualified ICT labour and promotion of digital skills across workforce - flagship priorities of the EC Communication COMM(2012) Towards a job-rich recovery  .

As ICT is developing rapidly, digital skills are increasingly becoming important and need to be constantly updated. In addition, the development of e-business is increasing in demand for individuals with creativity, innovation and higher-level conceptual skills.

This workshop brings together more than 25 relevant stakeholders from industry, human resources, academia and IT national associations from Europe, Unites States and Japan.

Workshop status

CEN ICT Skills Workshop has the following ongoing projects:

  • European eCompetence Framework 3.0
  • End User eCompetence Framework for ICT Users

The e-Competence Framework for ICT Users project aims to develop a simple conceptual framework to categorise and express ICT user e-competence, to various degrees of granularity, across several proficiency levels. The project will develop five commonly used ICT user e-competence areas with the assistance of project created framework development instructions, to allow for further elaboration and development of the framework. The project will also look to elaborate recommendations for possible framework tools for future development by third parties.

The final report of ICT Professional profiles project will be published as CWA end of May 2012.

The various CWAs produced by this Workshop can be downloaded here.
