            1. Where can I find the list of CEN/TCs, their work programme, names of chairpersons and secretaries?    Go to top

This kind of information is not part of the CEN BOSS. CEN BOSS describes roles and processes and their supporting tools. Operational information is available from the CEN Web site. Nevertheless, the CEN BOSS offers support to users through its section 'Useful Hyperlinks'.

            2. Where can I find BT and CA resolutions/decisions?   Go to top

BT and CA resolutions/decisions that are quoted in a profile, a process or a guidance document in the CEN BOSS are reproduced in full text in BOSS and accessible from a hyperlink. Others can be accessed from the CA and BT 'Work areas', from the CEN Web site (currently password-protected).

            3. What is the difference between management, production and support processes?     Go to top

Management processes are those decision-making processes that facilitate the direction and control of the CEN System by taking appropriate decisions. Production processes describe the procedures that are in place for the development of the CEN deliverables (ENs, Technical Specifications, Technical Reports, CWA). Support processes are processes that contribute to the good functioning of the CEN System.

            4. What is a candidate harmonised standard?    Go to top

A candidate harmonised standard is a standard being developed in the context of a 'New Approach Directive'. For more information, see 'glossary'.

            5. Where can I get standards?    Go to top

From here and from the CEN National Members who list them in their 'on-line catalogues'. They are also available from the Affiliates.

NOTE: See also the support process 'Distribution and sales of CEN Publications'.

            6. Where can I find information on mandates and order vouchers?    Go to top

General information on mandates can be found in the guidance document 'GD - Mandates'.

Information about particular mandates and order vouchers are available on request to CCMC.

Moreover, you can get information on mandated standards in the 'New Approach' web site :

            • either through the icon "Directives and Standards"  which allows a search through a list of all new approach directives
            • or through the icon "Standards via keywords and product families" which allows a search through keywords and/or product families.

            7. What is the difference between guidance documents and others?     Go to top

Profiles and processes describe how to operate. They describe the functioning of the CEN system and the roles of each of its components. Guidance documents give additional information, recommendations or tips. Using the standardizers language "Profiles" and "Processes" would be normative whilst "Guidance documents" would be informative.

            8. Why does the CEN BOSS not give any names of persons?    Go to top

The purpose of the CEN BOSS is to lay down what the role and responsibilities of functions such as. a TC Secretary, the Director General or a WG Convenor, ... are and not which persons are currently in office. This information must remain valid even if the persons in charge of processes change. Information like the names of CEN/TC Secretaries and Chairpersons are available from the CEN web site, or from the specific working areas created for that purpose. In addition, the CEN/BOSS, section called 'Useful Hyperlinks' offers support to users when looking for this type of information.
